William Stoddart surveys the vast and complex field of Hindu mythology, metaphysics and spirituality, and presents with clarity and concision the essential features of the Hindu religion. Outline of Hinduism, in its brief format, is remarkably comprehensive. It is an attractive introduction for the general reader and an accurate aide-memoire for the student.

William Stoddart was born at Carstairs, Scotland, spent most of his working life in London, and now lives in Windsor, Ontario. He has made a life-long study of the great religious traditions of the world, and in this connection, has traveled widely in Europe, North Africa, Turkey, India and Ceylon. For many years he was assistant editor of the British journal Studies in Comparative Religion. He has written several guides to the world religions, and has translated, from French and German, numerous books within his field of interest.

"This book is a treasure. It is written simultaneously to appeal to the
scholar and the mystic, the beginner and the adept, the collector of lofty
concepts and the perceiver of subtle and higher perceptions. The Vedic quotes
and lovely photographs reveal volumes of meaning and an endless array of
images and insights. It is a recurring source of delight."

"This book deserves a better title. True enough, an outline form is used, but
you shouldn't think this slim volume is in any way the dry husk the title
might suggest. The subject of `Hinduism' has caused more than a few otherwise patient Occidentals to throw up their hands in despair of ever making heads or tails of it. Dr. Stoddart has come to the rescue in this elegant, comprehensive survey. Well-illustrated, clear and concise, you will enjoy the education."

"Stoddart's book is brief, crisp, entirely reliable, and beyond mere academic
pedantry, for Stoddart is a scholar-seeker."

"The best feature of the book is the series of `modern sages and saints'
(with one page of text and one page of picture for each) which conveys an
appreciable amount of information."

"Delightful, well-illustrated, and well-written."
