The Beloved Imam Abdullah bin Alawi bin Muhammad al-Haddad was called the
renewer [ mu jaddid ] of the twelfth Islamic century. He was also referred to as
the Central Pole [ Al-Qutb ] of religious leaders [ Imams ] amongst the
fraternity of the knowledgeable learned [ Alim Ulamas ] during his period. May
Allah's regards and peace be upon them.
Today, most of his works are well documented. Imam al-Haddad endeavoured to
produce concise, clear and non-controversial texts. His concern for brevity is
manifest throughout his books. Some of his books are translated into English and
Malay for the non-Arabic speaking world.
The first pillar of Islam is to believe that there is no God but Allah and
Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah. There are many description of the Oneness of
Allah in the Quran. Imam Abdullah bin Alawi al-Haddad arranged the Tenets of
Faith, Wird al-Latif and the Ratib to make it easy for a believer [ mukminin ]
to affirm his believe in the Oneness of Allah [ tauhid ], and nurture and be
mindful of his duties towards Allah [ taqwallah ].
In the Quran, Allah repeatedly remind us to reflect and practise remembrance,
supplication and devotions to Him. Imam al-Haddad's Wird al-Latif and the
Celebrated Ratib are compilation of various phrases from the Quran and Hadiths
in simple arrangement to enhanced man's devotion and relationship with his
creator.
The reproduction and translation of the Aqidah Imam al-Haddad and Wird al-Latif
is the extension of my efforts to make available to my family the meaning of the
Ratib Sharil Imam Haddad. Together, I called them the “Gifts of Imam al-Haddad”.
I must thank the many brothers and sisters who helped in the translations, read
the text, made the correction and advised me in this effort. It was, by no
means, my effort. I do not have the capacity to translate but act more as a
coordinator.
Insha'Allah , other than my family and I, others will benefit from this
reproduction and its translation, and improve our religious practice. And may
the meaning be deeply entrenched in our souls and minds, and the benefits and
value of the precious Aqidah, Wird and Ratib be entrenched in us.
May Allah Guide us.
